RE: Antenna on a pop-up

Have thought about it but haven't done it yet. Just using the rabbit ears for now and they work ok just to catch the news or weather like you want to.

RE: Just Finished Up Our First Season With New Pup

Another vote for Gizmos here. They are worth every penny. As for a cover for your Jayco, I was told not to cover mine with anything, said same thing in owners manual. Even called Jayco and they said not to cover it.
Happy Camping.

RE: Mattress alternative for 2008 Starcraft RT

The foam mattress's in my Jayco are just the firmness for the DW and myself, we have no complaints about them at all. Our last camper had the worst mattress's ever and we had to use foam pads we got at Walmart to firm them up a bit.

RE: Reflictix Question...Where do you put it?

When I did the Reflectix thing, I did all the windows. Used them one time and haven't since. Like others said, too dark. I just use them on the bunk ends with the gizmos and under the matteress.

RE: Air Conditioner Trouble

It sounds as though the compressor has a bad winding in the motor or as you suspect, a bad bearing. Could also be a valve sticking. A/c compressors can be funny, I've seen them last 20 years and seen brand new ones go out in less than a year. As mike4947 stated, a 18-20 degree temp. differance is all about you're going to get in a PUP. PopUP Gizmos will help quite a bit if you don't have them. The dealer will be the best place to take it even though some may differ. Good Luck, let us know what the final problem was.

RE: Tank Capacities

Sometimes if I fill the water tank too fast, water will come out the overflow before it is full. Also, if your PUP is tilted towards your overflow side you will not fill the tank completely. It really doesn't take much of an angle to cause the water to flow towards one side. The water from the tank also goes to the hot water heater from the pump. I fill the hot water tank from the city water connection first before filling the water tank. This usually means filling it at home because most water hookups at campgrounds don't have the proper water connection fitting. Be sure to also vent your water heater tank when filling, I open up the relief valve lever while I'm standing there filling the tank so when all air is vented I can shut it off quickly. When you fill or use the city water connection, be sure you use a water regulator at the water source. Some places have tremendous water pressure. I have 165 pounds of water pressure at my home when the average is about 80 pounds. I have to use a water regulator to keep from blowing seals out of my water softner. Some campgrounds have really high water pressure which could damage water pump or burst a water line. Have never seen it happen but don't want to either, especially to me. Hope this helps but I'm sure others will have advice also. Good Luck.

RE: 9K BTU A/C on pup

Normally, a a/c will cool down the PUP about 20 degrees below the outside temp.
Having Gizmos on the bunk ends help a lot. I have a 13,500 BTU unit and there have been times when it just cooled down the PUP 15 degrees. Go with the 13,500 btu unit, you won't regret it.

RE: Our first camper, well mine at least....

As a Baja owner myself, I can tell you they are a lot of fun and quite a rig.
Congrats on the new Baja and as said , you will need a 30 amp adapter and at least a 20 amp breaker for the a/c. I have a 30 amp breaker on my Baja.
Good Luck with the new rig and have fun.

RE: Awning unzipped from anchor

A trick I learned from many years of backpacking for emergency repairs is to use dental floss. It's coated with wax so it goes through material fairly easy and it's tough as nails. Have used dental floss on tents and clothes and last year while up in the mountains I cut one of my boots, the materail by my ankle on a rock, and the dental floss closed it up just fine and held for the rest of the trip. Good Luck..........

RE: different manufacturers observations

I felt that the dealer service after the sale was avery important factor to consider. The Fleetwood dealer did not have the unit I wanted, the Evolution 2, and he had no idea if he would ever get one. The Jayco dealer had three Baja units and the one I wanted, the Camo unit. The selling price for the Camo was listed at $10,500.00 but I walked away with for $8,500.00. The first time I went to use the fridge, it would not work, called dealer and he said bring it in now. They took a fridge from another Jayco and installed it and tested it. I had it back the same day. Also, the Jayco's tow so nicely because they are so evenly balanced. I have had no sway what so ever. Good Luck in your decision making.

RE: Bought my first camper!

Congrats on the new PUP. As Beartoo said, take it easy while towing and allow plenty of room for braking and keep your distance safe and you should be okay. Have fun with that new PUP.

RE: Buying a used Jayco Baja have some questions

I use no sway bars or WD hitch and tow my 06 Baja 10C just fine. I do have a truck that can handle up 10,300 pounds towing and 3,500 pounds payload. If your Baja has a front deck I would try loading it and see what your TV does with it. Jayco's normally tow very well and sway very little. Remember to keep the Baja as level as you can when hitched up. Good Luck with the new Baja.

RE: platform for storage??? Barrels or Sawhorse

With my first camper I used four plastic 55 gallon chemical barrels from work to make loading and unloading easier. One night while I was at work, wife called and said strong wind storm came up and the camper was lying on it's top. Wind caught front of camper and blew it over. Insurance adjuster said that with the camper so high up, the front cabover acted like an airfoil. Now I take the extra time and lower the camper down onto four concrete blocks.

RE: Question for Palomino camper owners about lights

Check the fuse, if ok, check the bulbs. Doubt if all are bad but who knows. I don't have a Conv-Off-Batt on my Palomino but the lights should work on shore power.

RE: Ford F-150 and Pop-up Truck Camper, Need some Advice!!

The GVWR of my truck is 9,200 lbs. The weight of the truck with me and a full tank of gas is 5,800 lbs. which gives a payload of 3,400 lbs. These weights are from a CAT Scale at one of the area truck stops. I went to a second truck stop scale to verify weights and got a 20 lb. differance.

RE: Ford F-150 and Pop-up Truck Camper, Need some Advice!!

I purchased a 2008 Palomino 1251SB with a listed weight of 1,563 lbs. but the owners manual said that the fridge, water heater, furnace, stove top and propane bottle(full) where not included in the camper weight from the factory. I would advise you to not only weigh your truck with fuel and gear as others have said, but to get that camper weighted before you purchase it to make sure your truck can handle the weight. The weight of my Palomino went to 1,770 lbs. dry weight. Much more than I would want to put on a 1/2 ton truck with my family on board. That is why I bit the bullit two years ago and bought a used 3/4 ton truck with a payload of 3,400 lbs. Remember, the weight of your tie downs will also reduce your payload capacity. Good Luck to you and Happy Camping.

RE: securing a new camper

I agree, Torklifts and FastGuns are the way to go. As for the locks, when I bought my Fastguns, they had no locks, so I went to Walmart and bought a set of four keyed alike brass locks for $12.00. Have worked just fine for three years.
Happy Trails and Happy Camping.
